What You Should Take To The Maldives.
What You Should Take To The Maldives
CLOTHING: The Maldives is hot and humid so beach wear is normal. The only dress rules in the Maldives are: don’t take everything off on the beach. Nudity is punishable by law and one can be fined up to US$1000. Do wear at least a T-shirt and shorts covering your thighs when visiting inhabited islands.
When visiting Male, dress modestly. Local Muslim dress is conservative and visitors should remember and respect this. Holidaymakers and even honeymooners should leave their Western liberated dress sense back in the privacy of their beach villas or safari cruisers and should be considerate about strutting about town dressed for a romantic meal or encounter.
Light and casual clothing for daytime wear is customary. Themed nights dining on board or on a resort are a wonderful opportunity to show off fashionable leisure wear, but T-shirts and shorts may do as well. Should you visit a resort for fine dining, there may be specific dress code where anything less than elegant clothes could be disrespectful to the chef, fellow diners and the ambience.
PRESCRIPTIONS: Take the prescription medicines you need and enough of your favorite shampoo and hair and beauty care products, cosmetics, feminine hygiene items, contraceptives, etc, since you might not see a shop, other than a resort gift shop. Sandals are best footwear and if you wear glasses, make sure you have a spare pair since replacing lost ones would be difficult.
SUNSCREEN & SUNGLASSES & COSMETICS: Sunglasses are essential. Good quality sun-protection should never be compromised. Please, try to bring only eco-friendly soap/shampoo/shower gel if you are taking it with you.
READING MATERIAL: There will be plenty of time to read those books you have been meaning to read, so take them too. A notebook or diary is useful for writing memos to yourself.
FLASHLIGHT: A torch or flashlight might be useful, particularly when you spend the evening on a marooned island and choose to do a bit of exploring.
JEWELRY: Jewelry is superfluous, so leave it at home. Better to take a cheap watch than and expensive one, which you might worry about leaving on the beach when you suddenly decide to go for a swim.
DIVE GEAR: If you plan to dive, you can bring your own equipment, buy scuba gear in Male, or hire gear on board. Divers can bring their own wetsuits, but they are not essential as the water is not cold, other equipment can be rented.
CAMERA: Take a small camera to capture those amazing underwater shots and scenic sunsets and don't forget the charging adaptors and extra batteries for your phones, laptops and cameras, etc. Plenty of charging points including 220v and 110v are available on board and at the resorts.
